Translation

The TM Group's core activity is the translation of CERN documents between the Organization's two official languages French from and to English. We also provide translations from German into French and/or English.

Other languages translated on an occasional basis, depending on workloads, include Italian, Russian and Spanish.

For its translations, the TM Group makes use of Wordfast translation memory tool.

Types of documents

The types of document translated fall into four broad categories:

Council bodies

• all documents submitted to the Finance Committee and Council

Publications

• main articles for the Bulletin
• all articles in the monthly CERN Courier (until August 2005)
• CERN press releases
• promotional leaflets, brochures and video

Administrative / legal

• vacancy notices
• administrative procedures
• safety instructions and codes
• Annual Reports of the Laboratory
• CERN Human Resources Report

Technical

• contract adjudication documents
• specifications for major supply contracts
• technical data sheets
